Announcing CUGH's Global Health Capitol Hill Day, November 19, 2019
Last year, the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) secured a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to work with the US academic community to increase support for US leadership and funding for global health. To achieve this objective, we are collaborating with our members to inform members of Congress, State legislators and the public about the value of global health to their community, state, nation and the world.
As part of this initiative, we are facilitating engagements between academia, their government relations representatives, Congresspersons and State legislators to assist elected officials in making informed decisions about global health issues and investments. One of our main events is a Global Health Capitol Hill Day we are holding on November 19, 2019 from approximately 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. This will occur the day before the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene’s (ASTMH) Annual Conference, November 20-24, 2019 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center. For those attending ASTMH, we will arrange a bus to take people to and from this location and Capitol Hill.
This Hill Day will begin with a briefing on ‘what to expect while on Capitol Hill’ and will be followed by meetings with congresspersons. CUGH will do its best to arrange meetings with registrants’ senators and their House representative. If you have any questions please contact Ms. Monica Gilsanz, CUGH Advocacy and Communications Project Officer, firstname.lastname@example.org or (202) 872-1187.
We hope this effort will increase awareness and support for global health programs amongst legislators and the broader public and increase the creation and implementation of evidence-based policies that will improve the health of people and the planet.
