Global Health Track in Internal Medicine
The Global Health Track is an elective track embedded in the categorical IM residency. The Track accepts four residents per year, through a selective application process. The Track provides opportunities for residents to participate in service learning in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, delivers curriculum in global health topics via self-study and quarterly small groups and mentors residents in global health scholarship. An interdisciplinary home visitation program in the West Side of Chicago promotes service and learning with the goal of broadening knowledge of local social determinants of health and subsequent health inequities. The objective of the Global Health Track is to develop physicians who will have the knowledge, experience and perspective to be effective global citizens and practitioners, wherever their future careers take them.
