Special Topics VTL on Syllabus Design Next Week

The next GHECo virtual teachers’ lounge (VTL) will be a special topics session on updating syllabi for global health classes on August 13 (Wednesday) starting at 11am New York time.  The one-hour Zoom session will be hosted by GHECo member Julia Sherry (jcsherry@…) from the Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington using the link: https://iu.zoom.us/j/85371442412.  All are welcome.

·       The next annual meeting of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) will be held 9–12 April 2026 in Washington DC.  Registration and abstract submissions are now open at https://www.cugh2026.org/.  If you would like to volunteer to join the conference’s Scientific Planning Committee and serve as an abstract reviewer, please indicate your interest using the form at https://forms.gle/2mzGJwq2QUQ8dD8B9.  Norma Verona (nverona@…) and Sarah Stiles (sstiles@…) can answer any questions you may have about the conference.

·       GHECo will co-host an in-person educators’ workshop in Washington DC the morning of April 9, the first day of the CUGH conference.  The workshop is free, and workshop attendees do not need to register for the conference.

·       CUGH’s education committee wants to hear from you about how you think global health education is beneficial to students/trainees, educational institutions, and communities/nations.  Please share your ideas at https://uab.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bJmmi0tWQomwPqe.  The working group will share a “word cloud” or other infographic about the results in an upcoming GHECo newsletter… but they can’t make the graphic until they receive more words!

New Publications

·       The newest paper from the Lancet One Health Commission was published this week in The Lancet (https://doi.org/10.1016/S0140-6736(25)00627-0).  The article on “Harnessing our interconnectedness for equitable, sustainable, and healthy socioecological systems” recommends “mainstreaming One Health throughout the higher education sector, by adopting a core set of One Health competencies” and provides curricular design recommendations.

·       GHECo members are among the authors of a new article on “Student experiences and perspectives on decolonising global health education: a qualitative study across five Nordic countries” in Global Health Action (https://doi.org/10.1080/16549716.2025.2512624).
