Millions of guns are shipped to Central and South America from the United States. Many of these weapons fall into the hands of paramilitary groups, organized criminal networks and gangs. This is a significant driver of the very high homicide rate in this region and has created a climate of terror in many areas that is driving people northward as they flee to save their lives.
